Heritable Variation, Genetic and Phenotypic Correlations for Tuber Traits and Host Plant Resistance to Late Blight for Potato Breeding in Scandinavian Testing Sites

Potato breeding aims to improve crop productivity, quality and resilience based on heritable characteristics. Estimating the trait heritability correlations—both genetic phenotypic—among characteristics in a target population of environments allows us define best method that leads selection gains. Breeding clones (47) released cultivars (209) were grown using simple lattice designs at three testing sites northern southern Sweden estimate linear unbiased predictors (BLUPs) derived from mixed models for such as tuber weight (total according sizes), host plant resistance late blight (caused by oomycete Phytophthora infestans) (starch percentage specific gravity measurements reducing sugars). There was significant variation all investigated. Tuber starch total traits with highest broad-sense (H2), while smallest size (<40 mm) had H2 among different categories. These results show potential further improving these Scandinavia through recombination segregating offspring. The phenotypic correlations (p ? 0.05) irrespective their sizes, but none > percentage. Host negatively significantly associated percentage, thereby showing strong effects this disease productivity potatoes.
